IP Relay
IP Relay, which stands for Internet Protocol Relay, is a service that allows people with hearing or speech disabilities to make phone calls using a computer or web-enabled device.
Historically, IP Relay services worked by allowing users to type their messages to an operator who then reads them aloud to the other party on the phone, and vice versa; essentially acting as a communication intermediary between the user and the person they are calling.
Today, Nagish offers fully private IP Relay services that use AI to relay your message and transcribe the voice of the other party, enabling a smooth conversation.
Key points about IP Relay:
Accessibility:
Primarily used by individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, or have speech disabilities.
How it works:
The user types their message on a computer or mobile device, and a relay operator (Or an automated system, in the case of Nagish) reads it aloud to the other person on the phone, while captioning the other person's response for the user to see.
β
Benefits:
Offers a more convenient way to communicate over the phone compared to TTY devices, allowing for faster typing and a visual display of the conversation. In the case of Nagish, IP Relay is fully private and empowers user to have phone calls with not additional intermediaries such as interpreters or stenographers on the line.
