Is there any cost for using Nagish?

The short answer is No

Updated over a week ago

Nagish is Free for Registered Eligible Users

Nagish is 100% free for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or challenged with speech.

How is Nagish free?

Nagish is certified by the FCC, which means the FCC reimburses Nagish for the cost of providing its IP CTS services.

FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS ANYONE BUT REGISTERED USERS WITH HEARING LOSS FROM USING INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) CAPTIONED TELEPHONES WITH THE CAPTIONS TURNED ON. There is a cost for each minute of captions generated, paid from a federally administered fund.

Are all Nagish Services free because they are certified by the FCC?

No. Currently, Nagish is only certified by the FCC to provide IP CTS (Captioned Telephone Service).

Nagish may offer additional services at no cost as part of our mission to make communication accessible for all, such as text-to-speech and Nagish live. These services will be offered on a case-by-case basis and are not certified or reimbursed by the FCC.

Nagish also applied for IP Relay certification from the FCC. We hope to become an IP Relay certified provider, which will allow us to offer our services to eligible deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in the U.S. who are not eligible for IP CTS.
